Are You Being Called By Galaxy Asset Purchasing?

Many people today face the difficult choice of paying their rent or paying a debt collector who calls them every day and shouts at them. The first thing that you need to know is that legally, you don’t have to make this choice. The abusive collection agencies rely on you being too frightened and intimidated to seek the legal help you are entitled to.

Your Rights Under the FDCPA

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, or FDCPA, requires collection agencies to treat you with respect, but it doesn’t always happen. Tactics like those below are common but illegal, and if you report them, they can be fined or shut down.

● Calling at inconvenient times
● Pretending to be lawyers, police officers, or federal agents
● Telling your friends that you owe a debt
● Using profane or obscene language
● Contacting you after you have refused to pay
● Calling you at work when they know that your employer prohibits such calls

Alleged Violations against Galaxy Asset Purchasing*

According to PACER, on or around July 23, 2012, a representative of Galaxy Asset Purchasing sent a collection letter to an Indiana consumer. An investigation allegedly revealed that neither the company nor the attorney it engaged were authorized to collect debts or practice in Indiana.

Feeling harassed by Galaxy Asset Purchasing, the consumer sued the company for:

● Misrepresenting the character, amount, or legal status of a debt
● Trying to collect a debt in a state where they lacked the authority to do so

The matter was later resolved.
